Inspired Summer Events for Making the Most of Your Garden

With the shift in temperature and more accommodating weather, summer is the greatest time of year to host events and open up your home to others. Summer gatherings are always a joy to both attend and host, and given that last summer was effectively canceled, we should strive to make the most of this year’s sun with friends, family, and elderly loved ones which could include:

  • Afternoon tea

  • Garden party

  • Charity event

Should any elderly relatives be attending then a little extra care and attention to accessibility will be appreciated by those with mobility issues. To ensure that everyone can attend and have a great time then you could consider making certain places more accessible by wheelchair ramp, such as any gazebos or tents, your conservatory, or hosting areas.

A Treat not Just for the British

Summer days can indeed be lazy and there’s nothing quite like relaxing in the garden among the bees and blooming flowers. While we could spend hours extolling the virtues of freshly made lemonade, the most delectable afternoon beverage while enjoying company in your temperate garden is surprisingly a hot one.

Tea is enjoyed by millions of people all over the world, and there are of course many varieties. For afternoon tea, British tea is the best choice and is accompanied by milk and sugar. Cakes and cookies are traditionally served or you could indulge in Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite tea snack and make “Jam Pennies' ': jam on bread cut out into circles the size of a penny.

Staying Social Among Friends

What’s the point of creating such a lively and vibrant garden if only to keep it to yourself? Should not such a wonderful place be shared with others as it reaches its peak of natural beauty? A traditional and established Anglo-American social tradition, the garden party is still an outstanding use of your beautiful outdoor space for summer joy.

The quintessential garden party aims to create a room outside among nature, so you should carefully place down rugs and carpets so as not to ruin anybody’s shoes while both open and covered areas are essential. As for food, everyone has their own tastes but classic menu items include an assortment of patés, salad, meats and fish, and of course, plenty of wine.

Advocating for a Good Cause

While afternoon tea and garden parties are indeed excellent events for entertaining guests and staying social with friends, family, and neighbors, they aren’t putting your outdoor paradise to its best use: in service to others. Should you have access to a large area then holding charity events to raise awareness or money for a good cause is the best use of your garden.

Before the pandemic in 2019 American citizens donated almost $450 billion to good causes. 2021 is a good time to resume the giving spirit. Charity events can be held similar to garden parties with the addition of incentives to give. This could include auctions, fun tournaments, and the classic dinner dates. The only problem is deciding which good cause to advocate.
