Many U.S. Cities Have Stopped Recycling

The importance of recycling cannot be undervalued. We all know that we need to do our bit in order to protect the planet. However, the trouble is that it can be a lot easier said than done. This has become even more so the case over the past year or so, with China no longer accepting used paper or plastic from the U.S. This resulted in steep collection bills for a lot of communities, resulting in them needing to bury or burn more waste or end their recycling programs.

Recycling was once virtually a reflective effort by businesses and households across the United States. However, over the past couple of years, we have seen it collapse in a number of places around the country. For example, there are recycling bins at the international airport in Memphis, yet the newspapers, bottles, and cans that are being collected are sent to a landfill. Moreover, recycling material in Philadelphia is being burned in an incinerator, which converts waste into energy. These are just two examples of many. A lot of experts are consequently stating that we are in a crisis period with regards to the recycling movement at the moment.
