Reasons Why Real Female Friendships are Amazing
Being in lockdown for- what feels like an eternity has revealed to everyone a lot about their relationships. Whilst some friendships stayed strong and almost bulletproof, many fell flat once they weren’t nurtured by one side’s attention. Although it’s easy to lose faith in real friendship, the truth is that it’s not impossible to find your own sisterhood.
From movies such as The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants to Pitch Perfect, we are constantly reminded by the media of how brilliant girls and women are when they come together.
However, finding women who are like-minded is not always as easy as it seems in those iconic girl gang movies. Even in school, where you are surrounded with people your own age, you still might have a hard time finding these movie-like female friends. Even though there are many amazing benefits to having strong female friendships, please remember that they cannot be forced. So, there is no need to pressure yourself or feel down if you don’t already have a friendship group like in Bratz or Girl’s Trip. But here are a few things to look forward to:
1. Never having to deal with things alone
Female friendships mean there’s always someone by your side- support is never too far off! With mental health being talked about more and more every day, many educational organizations and workplaces offer wellbeing guidance but don’t really make themselves approachable. But with female friendships, everything you say feels acknowledged and empathized with and you don’t have to feel looked down on for sharing your ‘mean girl’ moments.
2. Experiencing fashion, food and all-round enlightenment
In major girly 2000s movies, it’s obvious that each friend contributes something special and different to the group. With the iconic Bratz, the individual girls were characterized by their hobbies and talents. Whilst Jade is always portrayed as a fashionista, Sasha is a lover of music and dance. Although each person in your own group may not be very different, there’s a lot you’ll be able to learn and pick up from them, just by learning to appreciate everyone for they are as individuals.
3. Free photography…obviously
What is the point of always looking as good as you do and never having anyone to take your photos during golden hour? Real female friendships come not only with free photographers who are willing to do whatever body contortion to get your preferred angle, but they also come with hype men who will make you feel like the queen you are!
