How to Care for Your Friends and Loved Ones in Stressful Times

During these unprecedented times, there is no manual on how to take care of our loved ones in quarantine. For new experiences, there are no “how-to’s”, we just have to create them for ourselves.

I realized that, like me, many of my friends were going through hard times. I wanted to be their ease and comfort. After searching for care packages online to buy and ship to them, I decided to create one myself. After all, I have nothing but time and wanted to take this opportunity to use it creatively and wisely. Not only would this make my friends happy, but it would give me a new project to do.

This is a mentally draining time where a “how are you doing?” text every other week may not be enough for those who are hurting. To go the extra mile, to show that you are thinking and caring for them, can really make a difference. Here is how to care for your friends and loved ones in quarantine.

1. Create a Care Package

A handmade care package can make our loved ones feel extra special. And no worries, you don't have to spend a lot of money on this. Find an old box that you can redecorate with scrap paper or paint. Then fill the box with mini goodies such as soap, bath bombs, tea packets- anything that’s useful to our loved ones and reminds them to take time and care for themselves. Not only will it make your friends and family feel loved, but it is also a way to tap into your creativity. You’ll be challenged to make something from nothing.

2. Write a Letter

We have more time than ever to sit down and express fully how much people mean to us. Your friends and loved ones will feel appreciated by your sweet and kind words. Plus, it is way cooler to mail and send a letter for a few cents rather than texting. It will take us back to the nostalgic old days that most of us have never experienced.

3. Make a Heartfelt Video

In our world filled with technology, it is easy to get lost in texting all of the time and sending pictures. By putting these two together, a heartfelt video can be an amusing and engaging way to show love. Sit down and create a two-minute video telling your loved one how much you care for them and how much you are thinking of them. When they think of you, your words of comfort will replay in their head and will be sure to make them feel better.

Everyone is doing their best during this pandemic, but sometimes we all feel down. However, it is always great to put in effort for your loved ones to show them that you care and that you are thinking about them. It’s great for you too- it will help you foster healthy, loving relationships, and nurture your creativity.
