If you are suffering from stomach pain, you may be feeling worried. There are many different reasons why an individual may experience pains in their stomach, and the best thing you can do is see a doctor if the pain does not subside. The best way to try and diagnose your stomach pain is by taking a look at the nature of the pain and any other symptoms that you are experiencing.
Firstly, let’s start with recurring abdominal pain or long-term pain, as this is widely considered the most severe. You should most definitely get in touch with a GI doctor if this is the sort of pain you have to cope with.
There are a number of different reasons why you may be experiencing this type of pain. Common issues include the following:
A urinary tract infection (UTI) that does not seem to want to go away. This is the likely scenario if you are also experiencing a burning sensation whenever you urinate.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This includes the likes of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
IBS. This is a common condition that causes constipation, diarrhoea, and bloating.
Other stomach-related issues, for example, gastritis, acid reflux, heartburn, or a stomach ulcer.
Next, we have sudden severe abdominal pain. This relates to an agonising pain that feels like it is targeting one specific area of your abdomen. This can be caused by the likes of:
Diverticulitis, which is inflammation of the small pouches in the bowel.
A perforated stomach ulcer or bleeding stomach ulcer.
If you are experiencing sudden stomach cramps and you are also suffering from diarrhoea, this is likely to indicate that you have some sort of stomach bug, i.e. gastroenteritis. This can happen if you have eaten food that has been contaminated, or if you have been in close contact with someone else who is infected.
Perhaps you do not have diarrhoea and instead, you feel incredibly bloated? If this is the case, then your stomach pain is likely to be down to trapped wind. You may feel that this is a bit embarrassing, but it happens to everyone and it can actually be incredibly painful.
As you can see, there are many different reasons why you may be suffering from a stomach ache. Hopefully, you have now got to the bottom of why you are in pain. If you are experiencing pains in your belly for any reason and they won’t seem to go away, it is important to see a doctor sooner rather than later.
