We are finding ourselves getting more and more bored being stuck indoors. Resorting to learning dance moves on tik tok, baking banana bread, and probably spending a lot of the day not doing much of anything. Wasting precious time when we can look to do something fun and exciting, even if you are indoors more the fun doesn’t have to stop, and still, remember to go outside for some fresh air and exercise.

Look After Your Mental Health

With anxiety and stress levels probably the highest they have been in a long time it is important to set aside a bit of time each day to refocus yourself and just check-in. Even just 10 minutes will do but you can do as long as you need to. Meditation is a great tool, it is about getting a healthy sense of perspective and understanding yourself in a new way. Headspace is a great option to introduce it into your routine especially if you have never done mediation before or mindfulness. It really gives you a chance to recharge and refocus.

Keep On Learning

Right now is the best time to start learning something new and continue learning what you are passionate about. It could be something you have wanted to do for a long time but just haven’t had the time to do it. Well, now you can. Even Travis Preston who is CalArts Artistic Director and Dean of the CalArts School of Theater. He has had a long and successful career as a stage director and theater educator. Although because of the pandemic he is currently teaching online so he is still able to pass on his knowledge, experience, and wisdom.

Take Up A New Hobby That Doesn’t Involve Screens

We find ourselves always stuck with our heads in our phones, tablets, and computers. Glued to screens all the time. Even a lot of hobbies are online these days and it’s the world we live in now, it’s just how it is. But having time away from the screen can be really good for your mental health and keeping you grounded. There are so many things you can try to have a bit of chill time like:

  • Knitting

  • Word Searches

  • Adult coloring book

  • Sewing

  • Crochet

  • Sudoku

  • Writing a short story

  • Play a board game with your family/loved ones

  • Reading

Get outside every day

By outside, it just means not in the house. Whether it is setting up a picnic in your garden for lunch, going on a walk around a woodland area close to your house, or simply sitting on your doorstep drinking a cup of coffee and watching the world go by. It is nice to have the sun on you but also it is a good time for the kids to get all their energy out and tire themselves for bed. Being outside is such a good way to keep grounded, get some fresh air in your lungs, and can do wonders for your mental health.
