How to Make the Most of a Camping Holiday

If you have a camping holiday planned, there are many ways to make the most of the trip and be as comfortable as possible. Whether you are capping with kids, camping with a new partner, or having a bit of an adventure with the girls, there is no reason you can have as much fun or even more than you would at a hotel resort. These days there are so many gadgets and high-tech resources available you will definitely be able to relax and have some fun to boot. Campsites have also invested in making their facilities better and better. We are not living in the dark ages anymore. Camping can be a relatively inexpensive way to see the beauty of mother Earth, while enjoying your time relaxing and destressing far away from the hustle and bustle of normal life.

The Campsite

The quality of the campsite you choose will have a huge impact on how much you enjoy the holiday. First, you are going to want somewhere in the area you want to go to, then you will want one that has all the facilities suitable for your needs. If you are taking children, perhaps somewhere that offers children’s groups, which may mean you and your partner can have some alone time. Maybe somewhere with museums and visitors centuries too. Do you want somewhere with Wi-fi and what about a swimming pool. Think about the adventures that they provide too, like kayaking or horse riding. You may also want to discover if there are any decent bars and restaurants in the nearby vicinity. The toilet and showing facilities are also something you will want to consider. Check out any reviews and testimonials, as well as the images. The quickest way to a nightmare holiday is booking the wrong campsite.

Activities

If you are camping somewhere with the express intention of getting involved in adventure activities, you should consider plenty of things. First, are the adventures suitable for your experiences level. There may be some excellent rivers and rapids for advanced kayakers, but is that suitable for you? Perhaps a lake, which is a little more serene and relaxed, would be better. There may even be opportunities for diving or cave exploring. It really depends on you. The most important thing to remember is that you need to have a heightened respect for the land, no matter what you are doing. Hiking and even country walking have dangers all of their own. Listen to the guides and wear appropriate clothing, and do not go off on your own.

Get the Right Equipment

In order to be comfortable, you need to invest in some decent equipment. The tent is the first thing on the list. It needs to be large enough for everyone who is coming on the adventure with you, and it needs to be strong enough to deal with strong gusts of wind and any potential downpours. If you scrimp on the tent, you may well end up regretting it. You also need to consider decent sleeping bags, ground mats, pillows, and various other bits and pieces such as a torch and knife. Take a look at some EcoGear FX to get an idea of the things you may need, especially if you plan on going hiking or fishing.

Food

It may be a good idea to plan meals before you go away on holiday. What foods are easy to cook on a open fire, for instance? It may help if you create a list of the food you plan to eat each day. That can save a lot of time and head-scratching. By being prepared food-wise, you can be sure that you will be able to eat healthily, possibly even better than you do at home. If you are going fishing and plan on cooking the fish you catch, perhaps remember the right kind of knife and have a book on cooking wild fish. Remember all the cooking essentials too. First, you need something to start a fire with, like a lighter or a firelighter. Also, remember things such as cutting boards and a food cooler. It may also be an idea to set your campfire on a slightly raised piece of ground and also remember a grill to place over the flames. Cooking outside on a campfire is a great experience, but if you are camping with children, ensure you do everything by the book.

Remember Those Extra Layers

It can get very cold at night, and sometimes a sleeping bag just does not cut it. So, remember to bring a lot of extra layers to keep warm. Think about some nice woolly socks at the very least, as sleeping outdoors is a completely different experience from sleeping in that lovely warm bed. Additionally, remember those waterproofs. No one wants to be sitting by the fire getting soaked to the bone. In the mornings, you may want a warm hat, scarf, and jacket, even if it is mid-summer.

Camping Chairs

If you don’t remember the camping chairs, you will know all about it. These are literally must-haves on a camping trip. It means you can enjoy those warm cups of coffee in the morning. Or take the weight off your feet after a day of adventuring. It may even be a good idea to get a hammock, so you can really relax. Having somewhere decent to sit, needs to be top of your priority list.

Other Essentials to Remember

It is probably wise if you remember the bug spray and mosquito repellant. You never know when you might need it. Also, think about things such as wet wipes. These are lifesavers, especially if you are camping with children. If it is sunny, prepare for no shade, so take along the sunscreen and sunglasses. If possible, try and camp beneath a tree for extra protection. Also, remember the shower gels and shampoos. If you are doing a lot of adventuring, you are going to get a bit muddy, so be warned.
