The Secrets Of Nose Breathing Uncovered

Nose breathing might not seem like it's any more beneficial to your health than breathing through your mouth. However, there are many reasons why it is. The nose hairs will catch any debris and bacteria that are floating around in the air, which could be harmful if breathed in through the mouth. If you breathe through your mouth, you're more likely to develop bad breath and a dry mouth, which can lead to discomfort and embarrassment. Your nose also warms the air that is ingested into your lungs, which prevents your overall body temperature from decreasing. But there are so many more reasons why you should always breathe through your nose.

Allergies control

Your nose hairs will trap and catch foreign particles floating in the air. This can be viruses or just particles such as cut grass. However, it can also be pollen. So if you have allergies such as hay fever, breathing through your nose could actually help to prevent an allergic reaction, which would make your eyes water and sneeze.

Sleep apnea
Sleep apnea is caused by a relaxation in the throat muscles which essentially closes the windpipe or can put pressure on your airway. This is what causes your body to force itself to snore by ingesting air through the nose to prevent the brain from having a lack of oxygen. However, if you breathe through your nose instead of your mouth, your throat muscles are less likely to relax. This is because they will be less fatigued through overuse caused by mouth breathing, but also because the airways from your nose will become wider and more efficient.

Easier breathing

When you breathe through your nose, you’re using fewer muscles and thus breathing should be easier. If you have deviated septum this is not always the case. It can feel like there is an obstruction in your nose that prevents you from taking nice deep breaths. For this, there is always rhinoplasty. It's a procedure whereby the surgeon will cut out a little part of your septum, to straighten the septum out and thus, allow for both of your nostrils to be of an even size. Instead of one nostril taking in more oxygen, you will be able to use both and thus breathe deeply, calmly and without obstruction.

Warmer air

Your throat does not heat up the ambient air that you breathe in. If you live in a cold country, this can cause your lungs to become colder and thus, your body temperature too. Breathing through your nose will avoid this as your nose heats up the air before it enters the lung. Your immune system works better when your body temperature is hotter, so by nose breathing you're less likely to get sick.

The secrets of nose breathing should have now made you aware of the benefits it has over mouth breathing. You should try to make nose breathing your dominant form of breathing to sleep better and be healthier.
