Living A Healthier Life: Goals For 2022

Health and wellness are usually top of the agenda when it comes to making new year resolutions, but this year, it’s more important than ever to prioritize mental and physical health. After a tough year, here are some goals to help you live a healthier, happier life in 2022.

Find a healthy work-life balance to reduce stress

A lack of time is one of the most common causes of stress. Many of us lead hectic lives, and we struggle to find the time to relax, spend quality time with friends and family and devote energy to hobbies or activities that make us happy. If you work long hours, it can be difficult to strike the right balance. Moving into a new year, make it your mission to seize control of your schedule and tip the scale. It’s important to work hard and take pride in the work you do, but it’s also crucial to enjoy life too. Give yourself time to wind down, hang out with friends and pursue interests.

Get care when you need it
From time to time, you might have something wrong with you that needs attending to, and when that is the case it’s important that you don’t overlook it if possible. To ensure that, you might want to think about what you can do to keep your wits about you in terms of illness. If you think you might be seriously unwell it’s vital that you get the care you need when you need it. Whether that means going to a hepatitis C clinic or simply seeing your GP about something, it’s important that you remember to do this, and don’t leave it until it is too late.

Moderate alcohol intake

Many people enjoy a drink, but there’s a difference between drinking because you want to have a glass of wine with friends or a cocktail with dinner and using alcohol as a coping mechanism or a crutch. If you tend to drink more when you are stressed, or you have noticed that your alcohol intake has increased recently, it’s a good idea to try to cut down and identify other coping strategies. Units of alcohol can add up very quickly, and it's easy to lose track. If you drink excessively, you could be at risk of both mental and physical health issues. You can use self-help techniques, such as avoiding buying alcohol, alternating soft drinks and alcoholic drinks and reducing social contact with people who drink, or seek advice for more severe issues, including addiction. There are rehab centers that run programs, as well as help and support available from doctors, therapists and nonprofit organizations. It is best to act swiftly if you think there is a risk that your drinking could spiral out of control.

Adopt an active lifestyle

It’s very common to see adverts for home fitness equipment and gyms at this time of year. Some people make resolutions to get fit, but they lose motivation quickly. If you’re one of those people who spends January in the gym and then goes months without working out, it’s a great idea to set yourself manageable targets. Instead of making yourself go for a run every day or complete a grueling weights session, embrace a more active lifestyle in general. Aim to exercise more and have fun along the way. You don’t have to run to get fit or do activities that you don’t enjoy. You can get out into the great outdoors, combine different activities and vary workouts to make life more interesting. You can also set realistic daily targets, such as doing 10,000 steps, for example.

The subject of health is under the spotlight at the moment, with the pandemic still dominating the headlines. If you are keen to live a healthier and happier life in 2022, it’s hugely beneficial to consider making some changes to protect your health and wellbeing. Try to manage and reduce stress, keep an eye on how much you drink and seek help if you need support, and adopt a more active lifestyle.
