6 Do’s and Don’ts for a Smooth First Date

You only have one chance to make a first impression. Your first impression should be especially good when you are going out on a first date with a person you like. You need to project the right image and be polite – you need to act like a gentleman or lady.

Here is an overview of six things to do and not to do when you are on a first date:

1. Pick a Good Location

Your first date’s venue should be both safe and suitable to your preferences. It should be somewhere that you can feel safe with your date, considering that you are still getting to know them. It should also be preferably somewhere that suits your tastes.

Ideal venues include a good restaurant, a movie theatre, a tour bus, and other public and serene places. Bad venues include your date’s house or a local club – you get the idea.

2. Dress Well

Your clothes are the first thing that your date will notice about you when they see you. As such, it should be something stylish – something that brings out your best qualities. More importantly, your dressing shouldn’t send the wrong message – you don’t want to look desperate, or like you came out to play. Bottom line: look good, bring out your best features, and cover the delicate parts.

3. Avoid Awkward Subjects

Your date will appreciate a beautiful and knowledgeable mind if they are the one. You don’t want to come off as shallow – or other undesirable traits. As such, pick your conversations wisely – as wisely as you chose your clothes. As such, avoid talking about the exes and find a topic that is interesting to you both.

4. Don’t Drink Too Much

Granted: you should have some fun on your date. Wine seems to make everything much better and keeps the conversation going. However, it can get other things going, and it can bring out your undesirable characteristics. As such, avoid drinking too much alcohol – avoid drinking altogether if you are a lightweight, speaking figuratively.

5. Put Your Phone Away

It seems that people are always on their phones nowadays. It has gotten so bad that researchers are warning that phones are getting in the way of physical human interaction.

Using your phone at the dinner table is always bad. However, using your phone while on a date is worse. It makes your date feel unappreciated and kills the buzz. As such, switch your phone off when you get to the venue – however, keep it close in case you need to call someone!

6. Don’t Give It Up

Most of the people you go out with will have one primary intention: to get into your pants. You can’t hate them for trying, but don’t give it up easily – certainly not on the first date. However, don’t let anyone stop you from going all the way if it is what you want. However, play it safe and use protection – and be sure to order STD test the following day if you mess up.

Final Thoughts

It is said that you have to kiss a thousand frogs before you find the right person for you. However, you can make your search easier if you put more effort into making your dates go well.
