Who Do You Want To Be This Year?

We, as human beings are not a fixed point. None of us is the same person we were ten years ago or, heck, even last week. We live in a constant state of evolution and re-invention and if there’s something we don’t like about ourselves we often have the opportunity to change it even if we’re not quite sure how. Nonetheless, the “new year, new you” mentality is pervasive. Although it may be cliche to talk about improving ourselves in terms of losing weight, eating better or getting more exercise these are by far the most popular (and achievable) ways in which one can improve or re-invent themselves. That said, it’s not the be all and end all. If you want to make a fundamental change in yourself this year, there are numerous ways in which to do it…

Ditch the psychological bad habits

Many of us flock to quit smoking, cut back on sugary or fatty processed foods and cut our other bad habits like swearing, but there are more profound ways to change bad habits, and that’s by addressing our psychology. Many of us allow ourselves to become negative, jaded, cynical and acerbic. We may want to have a more positive outlook but we have no idea how. In this case it’s helpful to use CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) techniques. These allow us to catch ‘unhelpful’ thoughts when they are formed, deconstruct them and replace them with something more helpful and positive. It can help us to achieve a more sunny disposition and even help to address issues like anxiety and depression.

Achieve financial independence

Aren’t you sick of letting social engagements pass you by due to your cringe-worthy bank balance? If this is the case, maybe it’s time to talk about achieving financial independence. You likely have some bad habits that need to be addressed in order to do this. We all have a tendency to comfort spend and it rarely brings us the satisfaction or happiness that we crave. Instead we get a fleeting high followed by an extended period of self loathing. It’s like trying to live on a diet of sweets and crisps. Unfortunately, when debts add up, they can create a black hole that’s tricky to get out of While there are poor credit personal loans out there, remember that it’s illegal to pay off debt with more debt. If you’re struggling to keep up your loan and card repayments consolidation may be the answer.

Get out of bad relationships

Relationships can be wonderful, but if you keep bouncing from one to another, it’s hard to get some perspective on who you are and what you want as you’;re constantly viewing yourself through the prism of how another person sees you. If you’ve been in a relationship all year that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere now’s the time to admit to yourself that it’s run its course. Take some time to work out who you are and what you want before diving back into the dating pool.
