4 Ways To Take Care Of Your Hearing Health

If you want to fully prioritise your wellbeing, you’ll need to carefully consider every aspect of your health. Many people believe that hearing loss is just one of those things that happens as you age, yet that isn’t the reality. There are plenty of things that you can do to protect your ears. With these four tips, you’ll be well on the right track to excellent hearing health!

Get your check-ups 

Slight hearing loss can be difficult to detect at first because the symptoms can be quite subtle. Perhaps your family have begun to complain that you have the TV up to loud? Or maybe you’ve noticed that you struggle to hear in a big crowd? Those with hearing loss might frequently misunderstand people, or find that they have to put a lot of effort into listening. If you have regular check-ups, your audiologist will be able to detect any issues with your ears. It’s better to find hearing problems early and treat them before your symptoms get worse. 

Turn it down 

When you frequently use audio devices at loud volumes, you’re really putting your hearing health at risk. If you listen to music through headphones, you should stick to a volume of no more than 60 decibels. Earbuds can be more problematic as they are put directly into the eardrum. It’s better to choose headphones that go over the ears if you can. It’s easy to crank up the volume and forget about the risks, but if you don’t want to damage your ears it’s important to remember!  

Protect your ears

If you are regularly exposing your ears to loud environments, it’s essential to protect them. Maybe you often attend festivals or concerts? In this case, you should think about using earplugs. Musicians should do the same to minimise the risks of ear damage. If you are exposed to loud noises due to work, make sure that your employer has provided you with the correct protective equipment for your ears

Take a break

Sometimes exposure to loud noises can’t be avoided, whether it’s a night out or a concert. The following day, always take a break and have a quiet day. Attending another loud event right away could damage your hearing. If you experience ringing in your ears after a concert, your ears will recover, but you just need a little time. (Remember to pack your earplugs next time)! Tinnitus is a condition whereby you’ll experience a phantom ringing or buzzing inside your ears. It can be an ongoing condition that’s linked to hearing loss. If you often experience such symptoms, you should make an appointment with an audiologist to learn more. An audiologist can diagnose and treat any hearing-related problems. 

When you go swimming, ensure that you properly dry your ears afterwards to get rid of any water inside. Excess moisture can lead to bacterial infections inside the ears. With these easy steps, you’ll be making sure that your ears are good and healthy! The more that you protect your ears the less chance you’ll have of suffering from hearing loss.
