Alex Morgan may be a lesser known name for many, but in the world of US women’s soccer, she is a legend. In the 2019 FIFA Women’s Soccer World Cup, Morgan managed to score five goals in a single game, smashing previous records and leaving them in the dust. Like the others on this list, Alex Morgan has done a lot in order to fight for equality when it comes to the differences between men and women in sports. In 2022, women's soccer is still not viewed as ‘as interesting’ as women’s, still being discriminated against.
Morgan is fighting for equality in soccer, and has previously said in interviews that her hope is that the next generation will be able to have total quality, with it just being given rather than having to be asked for.
Lindsey Vonn
Having only recently retired back in 2019, Lindsey Vonn retired as the greatest female skier of all time. She has 82 World Cup victories, along with three Olympic medals, and seven World Championship medals. She is one of the toughest women to ever grace sports, and has a lot to show for all of her hard work and dedication. Currently investing in the younger generation through her work with the Lindsey Vonn Foundation, she helps to provide scholarships and programming for education.
Vonn’s titles and medals were not easily won though. She suffered multiple injuries throughout her career, including critical nerve damage in her arm and a broken ankle. On top of that, she tore a ligament in her knee which ruptured twice, but never once gave up on her goal of becoming the best. She fought through it all, never fearing the sport she loved, and always getting back into it. She is a beacon to all women that you can keep going, even when hurdles are being put in your way at every available opportunity.
Simone Biles
Everyone knows the name Simone Biles by now. The gymnast from the US that has been, and is currently taking the gymnastics world by storm. Biles has 25 world championship medals to her name, and is showing no signs of slowing down in the next couple of years at her young age. She currently has more medals from competitions around the world than any other gymnast in history including both males and females.
But, Biles is not only known for her incredible ability within her sport. She is also known for much more, becoming a symbol to young girls around the world that you can achieve whatever you want to, but also to know when you need to take a minute. In 2021, Biles dropped out of the all-around competition in order to prioritize her mental health, something no athlete has ever done before. She is truly an inspiration to young athletes, achieving proudly, while also respecting her limits.
