How To Take Good Care Of Your Yacht

All boats and yachts, regardless of size, brand, or price, have one thing in common: they require regular upkeep to keep them looking and running like new for as long as possible. The problem is a lot of people will be so delighted to be purchasing a boat that they won't give much thought to the upkeep involved.

The importance of maintenance cannot be overstated, and knowing what to do will help ensure that your yacht investment is not wasted. The last thing you want is to buy a yacht – perhaps aresaving up for years – only to find it runs poorly or starts to look bad quickly. Here are some of the basics of yacht maintenance that will help you keep your boat in pristine condition.

Storage

It's important to always properly store your yacht when you won't be using it for an extended period of time. There are specialized boat storage units available for rent that will keep your boat safe and secure.

Your boat needs to be stored in a dry, covered unit. Ideally, it would be climate-controlled to prevent excessive heat or dampness from damaging the yacht. If you want to make sure your boat is properly protected, you should do some digging into the units you're thinking about. It really does pay to get this right, and it is one of the most important elements of yacht maintenance, even though it’s also the one that will usually be forgotten or left until the last minute.

Equipment Maintenance

Constantly performing basic equipment maintenance will ensure that the yacht continues to look great and performs admirably. If you want to keep up with the maintenance of your yacht, there are some things you will need to learn how to do on your own. Anything more complicated, however, should be handed off to an expert.

Checking out the engine is step one. After each trip, you should flush it out and inspect it for rust, corrosion, or other damage. Remember to check the oil and the radiator as well.

Just like in a car, the battery needs to be in good shape and functioning properly. The battery can be removed when it's not being used and kept dry. It's important to fully charge it before reinstalling it. In fact, it's recommended to recharge the battery at least three or four times annually.

Finally, examine the rotor blades. We recommend replacing damaged or missing components immediately.

Wash Your Yacht

Cleaning your yacht on a regular basis is crucial to its upkeep, as even though it's used on the water, it will still get dirty. After using your yacht for the day, you should always give it a quick wash down in the marina or landing area. The hull will be protected from corrosion because of this. Cleaning a boat's exterior requires a soft cloth or sponge and a nonabrasive soap designed for boats to preserve the surface.

You should also make it a weekly habit to clean, wax, and polish your yacht (or pay someone else to do it). This is the best way to keep your boat in pristine condition.
