How to Handle a Double Major
Doing a double major had always been one of my goals at the start of my journey in University. Next to my literature major, I had really wanted to add communication studies. Though it was not easy to get a 3.25 GPA I finally had done it. However, life has not been easy since; Clashing classes, clashing exams, trying to be on time while your lectures are on the opposite sides of the campus, having heavy workload, having to study while many of your friends hanging out etc. The list can go on and on. However, there is a way of surviving from this hectic life. Here are some tips that helped me get through:
Be Organized:
You will have many classes to attend. There will be lots of assignments you will have to deal with. In order to stay on top of them you have to be organized. Planning the week before hand, making to-do lists will help you a lot. By doing these you can also have a better idea when you are going to have free time.
Don’t Forget Why You Started:
Doing a double major is not easy. If you have a purpose, a certain goal you want to achieve it will keep you motivated. Whenever you feel desperate or worn out you should remember why you started in the first place. At the end of the day this is your journey and you are planning to have a good life.
Take Care of Yourself:
This might be the one of the important things to consider in the list. All of these things might feel you overwhelmed but there is nothing more important than your mental health. Never, ever forget to have a break when you feel tired. It is easy to lose the inner motivation sometimes. That is when you should take a step back and heal yourself.
Get Help when You Need:
You cannot do almost everything on your own. Sometimes you will need the help of others. Do not neglect their helping hands. It will also make you relax a bit.
At first I was very scared to start doing a double major, even the thought was intimidating. However, when I thought about my purpose I knew I had to do it. I would like to finish this post with one of my favourite quotes by Nelson Mandela. I hope it can motivate you as well. “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
