How to Celebrate National Self-Love Day This February

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, many of us are scrambling to create the perfect, romantic day for our sweethearts. From bright red roses to assorted chocolates, there’s a variety of ways to celebrate the love you share with that special someone. But, as important as it is to show your admiration to your significant other, it’s also equally as important to show yourself some love too. That’s why, on February 13th, we celebrate National Self-Love Day!

Love is all about giving and receiving, and there’s no reason why you can’t or shouldn’t show yourself the same love that you would to others. So, to commemorate the adoration you have for yourself this holiday, try following these five self-love ideas:

Go on an Adventure

Even though National Self-Love Day lands on the 13th, you don’t have to spend your day only performing your normal weekday activities. Sure, you may still have to wake up early and go to work, but that doesn’t mean you have to treat this day like every other. Instead, this is a great opportunity to go on an adventure! This could be a challenging hike or a mini road trip away from the world. No matter what your solo adventure looks like, remember to bring along any essentials you’ll need while you’re gone. This may include things like a phone charger, a spare change of clothes or shoes, water, etc.

Spoil Yourself

Part of engaging in self-compassion starts with treating yourself every once in a while. And what better time to do that then on National Self-Love Day? It can even be something as small as revamping your beauty routine with unique skincare products to target specific skin concerns. Whether you invest in a new acne cream to fight off unwanted blemishes or a hydrating face mask to nourish your dry skin, dedicate at least a half-hour of your day to pamper and spoil yourself. Trust us, you will feel refreshed and recharged in no time!

Cook or Bake Yourself Something

Usually, when you prepare a meal, it’s meant to serve more than one person, but it doesn’t have too! Rather than cooking up a fresh dinner for your family or baking a delicious dessert for a friend, prepare something appetizing for you and your taste buds. Whether you finally make that mouth-watering Pinterest dish you’ve been eyeing or dig out your favorite childhood family recipe, what matters most is that you enjoy it! So, pop on an apron, grab your ingredients, and turn up the tunes—then watch as your inner Food Network star comes out!

Enjoy Yourself, By Yourself

When was the last time you dedicated an hour or two to solely yourself? If you are like most people, you may be struggling to answer the question because it’s been so long. Well, it’s time to fix that! In honor of Self-Love Day, spend some extra time in your own company by doing things that you enjoy. This could mean a lot of things! For some, it may mean unwinding with a bath and a glass of wine. For others, however, it might mean practicing meditation or deep breathing exercises. Whatever you decide on, just make sure it brings you all the happiness you are entitled to.

Watch the Sunrise or Sunset

It doesn’t matter if you consider yourself to be an early bird or a night owl, today, be sure to catch some rays by watching the sunrise or sunset. Although it may not seem like much, taking time out of your day to embrace the beautiful colors of the horizon is a great way to relax and appreciate the day. Not only will it allow you to self-reflect on who you are and who you’ve become, but it’ll also allow you to enjoy the wonders of the world that are often taken for granted.
