Oh Happy Days! Finding Happy Moments in Everyday Life
The Marimba tone of your iPhone deafens your freshly awoken ears. You blink away the crust from one eye, gazing at the time, 9:00! Oh, late again? If you or your loved one faces the same waking up in a flurry , then welcome, you’re going to have a happier day.
Blink of an eye
First, ditch that Marimba alarm sound; its cliche and has been remixed one too many times. If you want to wake up in a better mood, start by switching your alarm tone. Maybe switch to a song you like, or your own voice, anything but the ‘your house is on fire’ tone or the soft piano hum that will put you back to sleep. Sound has the ability to change the very mechanisms of your mood. So, play that happy song!
Phone Positivity
I know the first thing you do is check your phone. I’m not here to tell you not to. We live in an era where checking our notifications and who cheated on who last night is all intriguing and immediately satisfying. But I suggest to start with reading a positive quote or getting some morning motivation. Starting your day with stress and current events can dampen your energy, so download one of the many apps that give you positivity. Some self care apps include happify and headspace! Pinterest can be your web of motivation, creativity, and positivity too!
The Art Of Your Bed
I know your bed is a mess and the last thing you want to do is make it up first thing in the morning. But, let's be realistic. You know coming home to a nice clean bed is comforting and peaceful. So, make that bed up, girl! It does not have to be perfect, just place your stuffed animals in a precise order so they can welcome you after a long day.
Chef it up
As busy as we are, we tend to skip what is good for us. Do not skip breakfast, like your mom says, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. It is essential to feed your body and your soul, prepping it for the day ahead. It does not have to be a chef’s delight, even cereal will do. So, love yourself enough to feed your body every morning. The hungry bird sometimes does not get the worm.
Awakening Thoughts
There is a brief serene moment in between waking up and getting up, where your mind seems empty and at peace. This moment you should take time to appreciate and write down your thoughts. Your mind will soon start to tick, so grab a journal and stream those thoughts. Anything that comes to mind are your morning thoughts. It can be dreams, goals, or a secret recipe you’re dying to perfect. Your mind is powerful, so let it be heard.
Stretch It Out
From lying in many subconscious positions at night, you may feel the need to stretch those knots out. How about some morning yoga? If you want to be dedicated and watch a YouTube video, go for it! If you want to just stretch into Vinyasa, that works too. Your body is your temple and this temple may need some renovating from time to time.
A happy mind makes for a happy day. To dodge the stress that comes raining down throughout the day, the tranquil essence of your morning has your back. You have the ability to change how you feel throughout your day, no matter the shade of your morning - terrible or wonderful. Just breathe for your happy days!
