Why Washington DC is the Best City

Washington DC is known as the nation’s capital in the United States of America. It is the land of politics and policy. A city where there is so much to explore and shop. DC is located between the borderline states of Virginia and Maryland and next to the Potomac River. It is also where the three branches of the federal government are located: the US capitol, White House, and Supreme Court. With so many things going on in DC, here are the reasons why it is one of the best cities in the country.

Accessible transportation

DC has a lot of accessible transportation. There are metro buses, ubers, taxis, and train stations that go around the DC area and outside of Maryland and Northern Virginia. You would not even need a car to get anywhere in the area. Everything is within a walking distance and you can easily get from one spot to another one in no time. This is one of the reasons why I love DC and I dislike driving in general. Also, I can easily get anywhere without any problems and everything is nearby.

Events

There are so many events going on in DC. From theatre performances at the John F. Kennedy Center to the Spring Cherry Blossom Festival, there are endless amounts of events one can attend. Some of them are free, especially if you are a broke college student or trying to save money. I went to a Christmas Maze event in DC and it was amazing because of the decorations and Christmas trees around the stadium.

Museums

There are so many museums to visit in DC! Most of them are free and you can visit them whenever you want. From the National History Museum, the National Art Gallery, the National Air and Space Museum, and more, there is so much to look for at these museums. One of my favorite  museums in DC is called the Newseum, which focuses on journalism and news, is going to close by the end of 2019. If you have not already gone to see that museum, then I recommend you go see it before it closes for good.

Shopping

There are numerous amount of stores around the DC area where you can shop at. CityCenter DC is one of them where they have a line of stores you can shop at. You can also go to Shop Made in DC where they have gifts, coffee, bagels, and beer. Other shopping malls they have are the Mazza Gallerie and the Gallery Place. Keep in mind that stores in DC are expensive so manage your money accordingly. I usually like to go to coffee shops there and check one of their clothing stores to see what I like.

Political scene

There are so many political opportunities in the DC area. There are federal agencies, the US Capitol Hill, the Supreme Court, law firms, non-profits, professional associations, and most importantly, the White House. You would see politicians and lawyers everywhere. You might even have a chance to see the president. There are many political jobs and internships young college students can do, especially if they live around the area. I never got the chance to intern in DC during my time in college so hopefully I can either land a paid post grad internship or full-time job in the area soon as I continue my job search.

There are endless opportunities, shopping, and places to see in Washington, DC. You would never be bored since there is always something to do in the district. If you get the chance in your life, go visit DC yourself and wonder why it is one of the best cities in the country. Hopefully I can make DC my future home soon.
