Rethink Family Time with These Suggestions
Family time is fleeting. You are very busy. Your kids seem to be busier than ever. And so it becomes more difficult to find times to actively connect with one another and as a family unit. Even with everything going on, you can find ways to be together and enjoy one another’s company. Here are some great ideas to get you started.
Spend Time at a Family Entertainment Center
You might have fond memories of spending hours circling the track on go-karts in your younger years. Or perhaps you got lost for hours in the arcade, leveling up, beating your own high score, and trying to outplay your best friends. If you have never visited an arcade or family entertainment center with your family, you should go, and soon.
You will have so much fun at a place like Celebration Station, where they have everything from arcade games and bumper cars to batting cages and kid-karts and go-karts. There is never a short supply of fun or things to do. Challenge your family on the miniature golf course and see who gets the lowest score. When you need a quick break or energy boost, stop into the food area and grab a bite or a snack to tide you over before you continue playing.
Volunteer as a Family
Another thing you may have probably done more of back in the day was volunteering. Acting in the service of others is something you can carry on with you regardless of your age. And altruism is a wonderful thing to pass on and share with your children.
Look for volunteer opportunities near you to find the right fit. Options may range considerably depending on where you live. When you volunteer as a family, you can model helpful and giving behaviors for your kids, but you can also spend time with one another doing good for others without expecting anything in return. This is something your kids will carry with them in their collective value set as they move through life.
Go Camping in Your Own Backyard
If you have been camping before, you know how much fun it is to be outside in the fresh air. Experiencing nature from your tent instead of looking at it through a hotel window is magical. However, you do not always have enough time to go on a camping trip. When time is limited, but you want to spend more time outside, you can just pitch the tent in your own backyard. Bring out the sleeping bags, flashlights, board games, and yard games. Leave the tech inside.

Your family is important, and so is the precious time you spend with the people you love. Go ahead and create new memories and experiences that you can carry forward in your hearts and minds. Try new activities, help others as a team, and work toward spending quality time together a little differently than before.
