How Can You Dissolve The Stress Of A Busy Job?

It’s probably fair to say that any job you work is going to come with its fair share of stress. Sure, some might be less stressful than others (typing this post comes with less stress than a nurse has on her night shift, or a teacher has when preparing for a busy day), but that doesn’t mean your place on the spectrum is any less relevant to you.

Moreover, some people are more or less responsive and sensitive to stress, meaning that while you might not objectively be as stressed out as someone training members of the public to skydive four times a day, it doesn’t mean your perspective is any less relevant and important.

With that in mind, it’s worth considering a few considerations to keep you progressing in the right direction. How can I not only experience stress without bending too much under the pressure, and how can I dissolve it at the end of a busy workday? We can certainly help you with the latter:

Journal & Get Those Emotions Out

Most of us carry that work stress home like an invisible backpack full of rocks, and so writing things down helps unpack all that weight. You don't need any special journaling method which is pretty reassuring for most of us, just grab your phone or a notebook and dump out whatever's on your mind. However, we’d recommend those that are a little more specific and helpful, such as guided journals for women, because not only do these have structure but can be perfect for working professionals. That’s because getting stress out of your mind and onto formatted paper somehow makes it feel more manageable. From there, looking back at old entries often shows you how many work worries sorted themselves out on their own.

Learn To “Active Rest”

We tend to celebrate productivity these days, but your mind needs different gears - like when you're walking the dog and suddenly forget all about that stressful meeting, or when you're so focused on cooking dinner that work feels miles away. Active rest is just that, resting but through having something engaging to be part of, so pop on some music, dig around in the garden, or mess about with a hobby. Moving your body and focusing on something completely different helps your brain actually switch off, while endless phone scrolling tends to keep your mind spinning.

Make Sure Your Schedule Contains Balance

Does everything in your life revolve around work? Sometimes it does yes, and necessarily so. But what if you could inject some balance and try saving some time for the other parts of your life? Even if it’s ten minutes it counts. For instance, book a regular coffee with a friend before heading to the office, or keep your Wednesday evenings free for that pottery class you've been meaning to try. Having fun plans sprinkled through your week makes work stress feel more manageable and you gain active rest even if you’re doing something. Even small chunks of time doing things you enjoy can make a huge difference to how you feel about your busy days, because there’s always that next bonus to look forward to, even if you’re not feeling so professionally gifted right now.

With this advice, we hope you can continue to dissolve the stress of that all-too-busy job.
