How To Plan A Fun Cross Country Road Trip

Cross country road trips are usually at least a week long, involve some serious long hauling on the road, and if you’re stuck in the car with people you don’t really like, you’re going to have a terrible time! That’s why it’s crucial to ensure you’re planning a fun cross country trip - and yes, that is possible.

Indeed, if you want to see your country from the best sights the nation has to offer, getting into a car, van, or RV is the best way to get involved. You can witness the best of the best from the ground up, and then simply hop back into your seat and get going for the next destination.

And to ensure you’re preserving the experience of this time-honored tradition, check out our tips for keeping your time on the road truly enjoyable.

Plan a Route of Your Own

It’s useful to ask around and get some recommendations on the roads you should take or the places you should stop, but make sure you account for your own ideas too. If you don’t, you might just end up on a road trip that doesn’t quite hit the heights you were really hoping for.

Make up a route of your own, ask for some advice on it from people who have done a similar trip before, but then apply that advice only if you really want to.

Search Out RV Parks

Staying at an RV park is one of the best elements of a cross country road trip. Really, there’s little to no set up (as you’re staying in the vehicle you’re using), but you can still hook up to electricity and get to use a toilet you don’t have to personally clean out yourself.

That’s why you should search out as many RV parks as possible on the route you’re going on. Check into as many as you need to, and even stay for a couple of days. Usually that makes continuing a long haul trip a bit easier, seeing as it’s a ‘respite’ stop, and you’ll never regret having more time to yourself on such an involved form of travel!

Take More Than You Think You Need

Cross country trips are long, by their very nature. If you’re going to be in a vehicle for the majority of the journey, there’s no saying when or where you’ll be able to stop to get things like food and drink.

So take more than you think you need before you even set off. Take at least an extra cooler with you, and be sure to have an emergency kit AND a first aid kit in the car as well. And always have some extra clothes to change into - you never know when the band of your jeans will cut just a bit too much into you while you’re sitting in a car seat!

Got a cross country road trip in mind? Keep it feeling fun and fresh with the tips above.
