Ways to Share the Gospel Without Saying a Word

by Blake (Rooted and Grounded)

Jesus said to preach to everyone. It’s our job to help others find the path to Christ. While we know that we’re supposed to be bold and unafraid, it can be really challenging sometimes. We live in a culture that isn’t always receptive to conversations surrounding faith. Beyond that, you might be shy and awkward around people. And, if we’re totally honest here, you’re busy, and sometimes it’s hard to remember to bring the conversations back to the topic of Jesus.

You want to do better. But how? First, you should practice talking about God and his effect on your life. The more you talk about a topic, the better you get at talking about it. Challenge yourself to be brave. Getting good at sharing the word is going to take some time, and that’s okay.

Until then, there are several ways that you can share the gospel without having to say a word. What a relief, right? Also, you can continue to use these nonverbal techniques even after you’re comfortable chatting it up about God. A bonus to these tricks is that they tend to be less abrasive and potentially more effective than approaching someone verbally.

So, let’s talk about some of the ways to be the brazen, Jesus-loving superstar, you know that you are, without having to say a word.

  1. Wear Your Faith: One of the simplest ways to share your faith is to wear in on your clothes. There are dozens of online and physical shops offering Christian t-shirts, blouses, accessories, bags, and more that proudly show bible verses or otherwise express your Christian faith. They’re great conversation starters. Also, there are a lot of companies who design faith-based clothes and accessories, so you’re sure to find something that represents your personal fashion sense.

  2. Decorate Your Home, Dorm, and Car: Similar to preaching the word through your clothes, you can also decorate your space to reflect your Christian faith. There’s an abundance of wood signs, crosses, keychains, and other decorations that have bible verses, inspirational sayings, or quirky Jesus-focused artwork.

  3. Always Have Your Bible- Carry your bible with you wherever you go. Take it to classes, to work, or out with friends. When you have a break, instead of picking up your phone, proudly open your bible and show the world that you’re a Christian. Having your bible on display encourages people to ask questions and start conversations. It’s also a bold display of your faith, which can inspire other believers to follow suit and non-believers to take notice.

  4. Use Social Media- Social media is more than a space to talk about the latest celebrity gossip or what you had for dinner. It’s your personal pulpit. Send out bible verses as tweets — post photos of you at church on your Instagram. Social media is a powerful tool to share the word of God. Don’t be afraid to use your platform to preach.

  5. Visually Pray- How powerful is it to see someone praying in public? You can do that, too. Silently bow your head and pray before meals, before tests, or anytime you feel inclined. If you’re feeling brave, ask others if you can lead a prayer before a meal or before a club activity. Get your other Christian friends to join you in a prayer circle. Prayer is fantastic because you don’t have to talk to anyone but God, and by doing so, you’re spreading the word and showing your faith.

  6. Listen to Christian Music- The Christian music scene has changed. Some amazing artists have really catchy and powerful songs that sound just as good as anything mainstream. Play Christian music in your car, dorm room, and at parties. Add a couple of tunes to your group’s Spotify playlist. You’ll be surprised how often you’re asked who the song is by and what it’s about. It’s an excellent way to get people asking questions and interested in Christian music and hearing the word of God.

Don’t Be Afraid to Share the Word

These are just a few ideas to get you started on sharing the word without having to say a thing. Get creative, and you’ll begin to find other opportunities to talk about your faith. Add little notes to your papers, email signatures, receipts at restaurants, and more. Jesus wanted us to share the gospel, and thankfully, there are so many ways to do it. You just have to have the strength, be brave, and work on taking every opportunity to share.
