What Worthwhile Cause Will You Champion This Summer?

Ah, summer. It’s the time where we feel the most alive, the most energetic, and the most celebratory of life. This is in large effect to the fact we can actually stay outside without wrapping up warm, or worrying about the weather in any large part. It is during this time of year that people schedule their most wonderful contributions to the world. It’s not uncommon for marathons, half marathons, many sporting events and fundraising activities such as concerts to be booked for this time, mainly because the conditions are suitable for it.

What cause might you champion this summer? To do so can help you pass a little of your privilege onto someone else that could deserve it, and in turn not only celebrate a wonderful four months but have them mean something. If this isn’t something you usually do - why not start now? You’d be amazed at just how redeeming placing your efforts in this pursuit can actually feel. Thankfully, it’s easier than you might think. You just need to know where to start.

Consider some of these causes if stuck for ideas, as they are truly wonderful. However, remember that are a million worthy causes you are unaware of, and that might warrant some further research. Also, keep in mind that a charities work is until that issue is resolved, not just for the span of a single summer. Without further ado:

Justin Wren - Fight For The Forgotten

Justin Wren is a professional mix martial arts fight, competing in the Bellator MMA heavyweight division. He is from Texas and enjoys a humble but dedicated following. You might be wondering why this is relevant. Surely an MMA fighter with somewhat of a presence needs no charitable contribution. Well, Justin Wren is actually much more than his day job. He pioneers the amazing charity Fight For The Forgotten, a firm that spends time-fighting for land ownership rights of the Pygmies in the Congo, and building wells for them. These people have often been oppressed by landowners and those buying their crops, and almost singlehandedly he has raised money for this function through his fighting effort, and through actually fighting. His cause is getting bigger by the day and is incredibly impressive. We’d recommend researching more and finding out how you can help.

Song SAA

While helping a community get its first comfortable sense of autonomy is important, developing one with complex and rewarding infrastructure and social systems is another thing entirely. Entire Song SAA, one of the most impressive charities offering a cohesive look at the people, land and climate action activism. Right now they function in the Koh Rong Archipelago and beyond, extending greatly since purchasing the island of Koh Quen in 2006, and thusly the neighboring island of Koh Rong.

Helping the economy develop via fighting deforestation (often a consequence of crime and corruption, or interference from international corporations destroying the wildlife,) constructing dams to naturally create waterways or prevent flooding catastrophes, building infrastructure such as roads, installing methods of limiting the environmental impact of new processes, and providing training and social care programs to those who need it most is but a fraction of what this amazing firm does. This sustainable development foundation to help the local communities is at the core of their ethical output, and as such is rewarded with nothing but admiration and support. Consider donating or fundraising for this charity, or at the very least learn more about them. Who knows what appropriate change you could make with your contribution?

You might have noticed both methods on this list are involved in developing communities and helping the disadvantaged. During a summer like this, surrounded by the beauty and opulence of our home countries, it can pay to think of those less fortunate. We’re sure that with this, your summer will make a difference.
