The Good, The Bad, And The App-ly: Smartphones In Modern Society

Browsing around the web, you can find loads of articles arguing for both the good and the bad side of smartphones. Opinion is widely divided amongst the users of devices like this, with some people heralding them as the way of the future, and others branding them as dangerous. With any product like this, though, you will find both sides. To help you out with this, this post will be exploring the benefits and disadvantages of smartphones when applied to a modern society.

The Good

Accountability has long been a big problem throughout the world. Criminals have been able to get away with huge crimes, simply because there isn’t a record of their appearance. With the emergence of smartphones, though, everyone has a video camera in their pocket, and this has changed the way that police operate. In some cases, cell phone videos have been able to secure convictions, providing people with no other means to protect themselves with the chance to capture the face of an assailant. Of course, though, this doesn’t always pan out.

Along with being able to help in the world of crime fighting, smartphones are also responsible for providing a wealth of information. In places where computers are too expensive for normal people to own, phones are often much more reasonable, while also being much better suited to use in rough conditions. This gives people in even the remotest places the chance to access the wealth of information which is found online. In the future, this could lead to entire generations gaining an upperhand.

The Bad

The companies making smartphones are very aware of their necessity in the modern world. People need to have these devices, and this gives manufacturers the power to take control of things you might not want them to. Learning to unlock any iPhone, for example, can be a big challenge, with Apple choosing the lock their devices to the networks which carry them. Of course, this makes sense from a businesses point of view, but it can be very restrictive when you want to use the phone you’ve bought.

Of course, though, the negative impact of these devices spreads much further than small inconveniences. With these devices becoming more and more desirable, the rate of crimes which involve them in some way are going up by a huge degree. In some cases, people have been willing to kill to get their hands on someone else’s phone, and this is something which needs to change. With everyone using them, though, it can be impossible to escape the risk which comes with it.

Hopefully, this post will give you a better idea of what makes the phone industry tick. In any market like this, there will always be a good and a bad side, making it hard for consumers to know where they stand with the products they buy. Of course, though, you have all of the tools you need to get to the bottom of this, and it will be worth working hard to do so before you buy your next phone.
