Things Only 21st Century Christians Know

Being a Christian woman in the 21st Century can be tough. There are so many preconceptions about believers that you can earn yourself an undesirable reputation just because you wear a cross or go to church every Sunday. It’s time to set the record straight.

Here are a few things that only 21st Century Christians know that it might be useful for those of you who are following a different path to be aware of too:

Being Christian Can be Fun

A lot of non-Christians have us all pegged as bible-bashing bores who’s only topics of conversation are Jesus and church. They think that we all spend all our days fearing fire and brimstone and never doing anything fun. That’s simply not true. The average Christian is just like anyone else; we have fun; we go to the movies; we enjoy cute animal videos. If you don’t believe me, you can get more info on the fun side of Christianity by watching some of these great Christian -centric videos. We really aren’t all downers!

Other Religious People are More Likely to Be Mean Than Non-Believers

Although many non-believers can have some pretty big misconceptions about the average Christian, it isn’t actually the atheists who are the biggest attackers of Christians - a lot of the time; it is other Christians who go on the attack. There are an increasing number (although still a minority) of overzealous Christians who are quick to label other members of the flock fakes or to criticize the way they dress amongst other things. It can be upsetting, but you need to remember that most Christians aren’t like this and they will have your back.

Your Faith Will surprise People

Even if you’re living in a pretty Christian country like the USA, you will find that there are still lots of people who express surprise when they find out that you're a Christian. Part of this is because you don’t conform to those pesky preconceptions they have about Christians and part of it is because people are becoming increasingly secular. The good thing is, that despite their surprise. Most people really don’t have a problem with your religion, adopting a live and let live policy.

No Sex Before Marriage is Alive and Well

This is something that surprises a lot of people who aren’t Christians, but those of us who are, and those of us who follow other faiths too, know that there are plenty of teens, twenty-somethings and even thirty-somethings who are still virgins and they are still virgins because they have a strong religious belief that saving themselves for marriage is the right thing to do. Most people think our society is more promiscuous than ever, but that certainly is not a universal truth. Of course, there are plenty of Christians who don’t adhere to this policy, but it is more than ever looked upon as a private matter by everyone, including most of the Christian community.

I hope this has enlightened you a little about life as a Christian in the 21st Century. The more you know, the more you will understand.
