An Entryway To A New Start: Taking The First Steps After A Bad Time

We all experience a bad time in life, and whether it's a completely life-changing experience that shakes us to our very foundations or something smaller, we need to find a way to start again after these terrible times. But when we are struggling for an entryway to a new start, what can we do to ensure that we are making these positive steps in the right direction?

Get A Support Group

Whether personal or professional, a support network is invaluable. We can go through such difficult times in life that we feel we have no one there for us. But when we have a support network of people around us, such as friends, or even people who have been through the same problems as us, we can feel a kinship. Even if you're figuring out how to quit drinking or an addiction to a substance, the impact of Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous provides that framework that is essential to make us realize when not going through this alone. This is something that we have to come to terms within ourselves. We can feel that we are struggling through problems without any help. A support group of people will give you that strength when you don't believe you have it yourself.

Find Out Why You Want To Change

Firstly, “change” is a big word, and it comes with all manner of connotations, but when you figure out your why, the purpose, this is what provides you with the impetus to make big changes to your life. Clarity is something we all need because if without any purpose, it can leave us feeling somewhat empty. Not everybody has a crystal clear vision of what they want, and are perfectly happy, but when you've gone through something difficult, it could either knock you off course or it can provide you with 20/20 vision all of a sudden. Grief is one of those things that can make you realize what's important, and when you lose someone you care about, it forces you to make positive changes in your life, because of the realization that life is fleeting. Wanting to change is admirable, but we're not going to make any positive inroads if we don't know why we want to change.

Be The Best Version Of You

If there is only one truth, it's that we can only be ourselves. Learning this truth can take a long time, and when we go through difficult life events, like a breakup, it can make us focus on why it didn't work out. But everything happens for a reason, and when you see that you’ve compromised yourself too much for the other person, you can realize this is the best thing that ever happened to you because you are now able to be this version of yourself that is true. It can take many years for us to realize that we aren't being true to ourselves, but when you do, this is the biggest tool towards stepping in the right direction of a new start in life.
