It’s sad to see that the word immigration has actually become something that people fear or disrespect. It’s often linked to the word ‘illegal’ and even ‘terrorism’ these days. It’s somewhat ironic considering anti-immigrant views are often found in countries where most of the inhabitants are immigrants. Places like America were founded by those traveling to new worlds. It’s even written on one of the great symbols of the country. Whatever happened to taking in the tired and the poor and is it equally difficult for everyone?

It’s fair to see that immigrating to certain countries is more difficult for people of colour. You might have thought that the new laws Trump tried to implement against immigration from certain Muslim countries was racist. What you may be unaware of is that these type of policies have always existed in American law and other countries as well. In fact, one could go as far to suggest that there has always been racism present in immigration laws. Indeed, even Barack Obama placed bans on immigrants from certain countries that he deemed a threat, including Syria.

Protecting Rights Of Immigrants

You might think that once you reach a new location and set up your life, your troubles are over. On the contrary, immigrants have to face a number of issues once they move. One of the main problems you could face is having your right to live in a country revoked. This could happen to hundreds of thousands of EU nationals who are currently residing in Britain after Article 50 is initiated. There are lawyers who specialise in immigration help and can ensure rights of new citizens in a country are protected. But ultimately, it could be argued that the right to live in a country should never be questioned. Many people do favor the idea of borders between countries being broken down completely.

The Future For Immigrants

It is clear that there are many governments in the world today, eager to close their doors to immigrants. Particularly those immigrating in search of a better life from the Middle East. But, there is also an uproar in the general population against this type of policy. Indeed, it seems the greatest ally of the immigrant might be a wide majority of individuals already living in these countries. The entire world is quickly becoming a melting pot. At some point, international world leaders are going to need to reconsider what immigration should look like in a globalized society.
