The holiday season is coming up, and there’s no better way to embrace it than with a warm drink in hand and holiday movies playing back to back. Here are some of my favorite films for December to really put you in the celebratory spirit.

Rise of the Guardians

If you’re looking for a fun animated movie that you may have forgotten about, Rise of the Guardians is the perfect option. This movie focuses on the immortal Guardians, such as Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy, who keep the world’s children safe. But when darkness threatens the children’s belief in these Guardians, Jack Frost has to save the day.

With its heartwarming message and unique cast of characters, this film can definitely appeal to all ages.. It’s a wintery, fantasy adventure, with a stellar cast featuring Chris Pine and Isla Fisher, along with executive producer Guillermo del Toro.

Love, Actually

This is a rom-com so many people love, and it is perfect for the holiday season. Taking multiple different stories and tying them together to send a message about love, this film concentrates on many characters such as the British prime minister and a writer whose love life gets complicated.

What I love about this film is the way the stories intertwine and how they all tug at the heartstrings. It’s a great movie for anyone who loves romantic comedies, or anyone who just wants a nostalgic holiday movie to get into the spirit.

Polar Express

Craving nostalgia? There’s no better option than Polar Express. Honestly as a child, I used to think of it as an eerie film that captured the spirit of the holiday season. It’s a whirlwind adventure about a boy who takes a journey to the North Pole and discovers the power of believing in something.

This is a classic holiday movie that never fails to make me emotional, even if some parts just make me laugh. The premise is whimsical and fun, and it takes me back to every childhood winter break where I’d sit with my family on Christmas Eve and watch this movie once again.

Home Alone

Home Alone is another classic film that never fails to entertain, mostly because of how funny and light hearted it is. This feel-good holiday film has a unique storyline that focuses on Kevin, a kid with a huge family, whose parents forget him at home as they head to the airport for their Christmas vacation. But instead of getting to revel in his freedom, Kevin has to deal with men trying to rob his house.

It’s hard to forget the antics of this lovable holiday classic. This is another one that doesn’t get old, and it’s a movie that families everywhere can enjoy.

A Christmas Prince

Okay, hear me out on this one: A Christmas Prince is really cheesy, but it has all the makings of a perfectly silly holiday movie that delivers a feel-good experience. It’s about a journalist named Amber who goes to the country of Aldovia to cover a story on the prince rumored to be somewhat of a playboy. I’m sure we all know where this is headed.

The movie is predictable but sweet and exciting like all holiday movies we love. It has some incredible holiday aesthetics, too, to get you ready for the holidays. Not only that, but three films in the series have been released, so you can binge watch them all this December.
