Don't Believe Everything You Read On The Internet

If we were to believe everything we read on the internet, we’d think that the ‘Friends’ movie should be out any day now, that climate change isn't real, and that we could charge our iPhones using an onion. We shouldn't have to tell you that not everything you see on the internet is real and factual. However, adults, not just children, are falling for many of the hoaxes and fake news sites set up to spread a false narrative today.

Watch What You Share

You can help stop the spread of fake news and false narratives by refusing to share things before you’ve looked into them. Do you really know that the famous person you once respected said something unforgivably misogynistic? Can you be sure that Mcdonalds are giving away thousands of dollars to the first 10,000 people who follow their new social media page? Stop and think!

Know What To Look For

Look at URLs and the domain of a website to get a feel for whether it is real or not. A strange looking domain can be a big clue that the website isn't all it is cracked up to be, even if it looks legitimate. Anybody can build a good looking website and write whatever they want on it!

Educate Yourself

Always look for new ways to educate yourself on what’s going on in the world. Use books, podcasts, and YouTube channels - just always be aware of propaganda and why a certain publication may be talking about a subject the way it is. The infographic below can help to educate you further!
