1. Volunteer on Political Campaigns
You can volunteer on political campaigns for your favorite legislator who is up for reelection or who is running for the first person. You can canvass, phone bank, use social media to advertise your legislator, or speak directly to voters on why they should vote for your favorite legislator. This is a good way to get your foot and it looks good on your resume.
2. Register to Vote
This is one of the easiest ways to make a change. It only takes a few minutes on your county’s board of elections website or in person to register to vote. By registering to vote, you have the power to vote on who should represent your county, state, and country. Be sure to go to the voting booth on election day. If you do not have time to go to the voting booth on election day, then you can either do early voting, which happens like a couple of months early and usually last for a week, or request fill out an absentee ballot to vote and then send it through mail.
3. Call or Email your Representatives on Issues that Matter
Calling or emailing your representatives on issues that matter can make a difference on how they make decisions about them. Whether it is about gun prevention, minimum wage, healthcare, or education, by simply contacting your representatives can make a difference and would affect on each bill they would vote on.
4. Intern
If you are planning to go into politics, then doing a congressional internship with your legislator can be beneficial. You would learn how what working in politics is like while also gaining experience.
5. Participate in Protests
By participating in protests for climate change or preventing gun violence, you would have your voice heard in person. You can look up online or on social media to find the nearest protest you want to participate in. Also, you can create and bring signs to get your message across on issues that matter to you.
6. Stay Informed
The most important way to become politically active is to stay informed with current events either by watching the news, reading the newspaper, or follow news organizations on social media. You can have civil conversations on what is going on in your own county or country with your family and friends. By being informed on what is going on, then you can figure out what you want to do next and make a difference in the future.
