How to Take Care of Yourself

When you are either a college student or a young working professional in the real world, life can become crazy. Whether you are juggling a full-time job while also going to school and doing extracurricular activities, it can be overwhelming to do so much. Sometimes, we need a reminder that it is important to take care of ourselves so we do not feel exhausted all the time. Here are several ways to take care of yourself when you have a busy life.

Take a much needed bath

Usually what I do when I am really stressed is to set some time to take a much needed bath. I like to put a bunch of bath bombs in the bathtub before getting into it. It helps me relax and I feel fresh and clean afterwards. 

Get some exercise

Getting some exercise is really beneficial for your health and can help you take your mind off of things. You can go for a run, dance your heart out, or attend a yoga class to forget all of your worries of the days to come. It really helps to have your playlist of your favorite music on you as you exercise so you can keep on moving. When I exercise I like to play motivational music to help me keep on going.

Talk to a friend

If something is bothering you, then you can talk to a friend about it. Set aside some time and talk to your friend over coffee about anything that is bothering you. It helps to let your frustrations out instead of holding back in you. I like to talk to one of my friends over coffee at a nearby Starbucks. There were times where I felt frustrated, especially during my job search, so I talk it over to my friend and know that in the end, everything would be alright. 

Watch Netflix

You can watch your favorite cartoons or dramas on Netflix all day to keep occupy from everyday life. I do not recommend watching anything depressing because it would make you feel worse. Whenever I feel down or stressed, I like to watch my favorite cartoon Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. Watching the show makes me feel happy and forget all of my troubles.

Eat healthy

Eating healthy can help you feel more energetic and active. Also, it is good for your body. I usually like to eat bananas, grapes, and various kinds of salads. I tried to not eat too many sweets but I like to eat chocolate. Eating chocolate (especially dark chocolate) makes me full and satisfies my sweet tooth.

Do what you love

The most important way to take care of yourself is to do what you love! Ride a bike, write in your journal, go shopping, listen to music, drink ice coffee, do your nails, etc. The possibilities are endless. Also, do not do anything that makes you more stress than you already are. Do what you love and the rest will follow.

At the end of the day, we are all human with everyday responsibilities. Life can get hectic. As a recent college graduate who is still trying to figure out her life, I had to remind myself that it is important that I need to take care of myself. Being stressed out over one thing is not worth it. Life goes on and we only have one life to live. Take care of yourself.
