The Importance of Self Care for A Person's Physical & Mental Health

What is self-care? We always hear  people mention that it’s important to take care of one’s self when we don’t know what it truly means. Let me tell you the word, “self-care,” in itself is pretty straightforward. Its when we need to take a step back from our responsibilities, and realize the importance about our own personal needs, if needed. These days, the topic of self-care is very popular among both the younger as well as the older generations. But it’s never clearly explained the impact that it can have on the performance of our daily lives. Also, self-care mainly relates to how we handle our stress management. Through self-care books, meditations, and other self-care routines, it allows us to have a healthy relationship with ourselves, and gives us  time to heal inwardly and outwardly. We get so caught up in the idea of getting things done in a short span of time, which leads us to not realizing the amount of energy that we actually do have in ourselves since we’re only focusing on what needs to be done, and not paying attention to our personal needs. If we don’t realize the importance of self-care, then how can it have a positive impact on our mental, emotional, and physical health? What are the negative effects if we don’t care of it right away?

Firstly, when it comes to the mental aspect of indulging in self-care, it will prevent the feeling of burnouts. When we keep in a huge of amount stress inside of ourselves, we don’t feel motivated to get those responsibilities accomplished, which can allow more stress to build up inside of ourselves. Secondly, we need to take some time to go straight to the gym without hesitating to so because our physical health is equally important as well. When we cannot cope with the idea of stress, we tend to go towards our comfort foods but instead of stress eating, we need to release the huge amount of adrenaline in our bodies through the treadmills or any other exercises; honestly, it’s one of the best ways to deal with stress. Finally, emotional health, when we feel down or when we aren’t able to physically express our feelings, it’s best that you write down in a journal, so, you’re able to write your thoughts on paper. Our emotional health relates with our mental and physical health, and when were able to take care of ourselves in those two categories; then we’re preventing ourselves from lowering our self-esteem.

When we give ourselves that time to heal, we need to step back and realize that overworking ourselves will only decrease the quality of our daily routine, and by just taking a break from those responsibilities; it will balance out our inner selves along with the duties that we have need to accomplish. Every individuals’ mental and physical health should be made a priority over the responsibilities that come to them. There are different ways such as exercising, meditating, or even pampering oneself that can relieve and manage one’s stress. So, it’s important to know how to handle stress the right way, and learn to care for oneself in these temporary moments.
