France’s Finest Tourist Destinations
France is one of the most beautiful and interesting countries in the world. The home of romance, culture and summer sun, it is one place that you should make the effort to visit at least once in your lifetime.
Because there are so many beautiful, interesting and awe-inspiring tourist attractions in the area, I would suggest that you either take or hire a car, depending on where you are traveling from, so that you can pack in as many experiences as possible. Parking near the Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower and other popular attractions is pretty affordable, so you should have no problems there, but which attractions should you add to your itinerary?
The Palace of Versailles
Perhaps, this regal palace is the jewel in France’s crown. If you want to immerse yourself in the grandeur and opulence of the French Monarchy back in time, marvel at impressive architecture, expensive art and unbelievable beautiful gardens, you need to put the Palace of Versailles at the top of your itinerary. Be sure to pick up a headset for a guided tour while you’re there.
Word War One Battlefields
World War One was one of the most terrible wars of all time. Millions of brave men lost their lives fighting for their countries. So, if you happen to be anywhere near the area where much of the war in France took place, make the time to visit the Somme, see its trenches, look at the memorials and visit the museums to find out a bit about that tragic time in history.
The Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower’s appearance on this list probably isn’t a shocker, but it comes so recommended because the colossal iron tower is one of the most iconic structures in the world, and one which gives you some of the best views out across Paris, especially if you go up to the 3rd tower and look out.
Musee Du Louvre
One of France’s most popular attractions, the Musee Du Louvre is home to some of the most famous works of art, ancient artefacts and sculptures created in the past 2000 years. Even the building, which was constructed in the 12th century as a medieval palace, is an impressive work of art in its own right. Visit, soak up the culture and comeback forever changed.
The Arc de Triomphe
Located at the end of the Champs Elysees, which is worth visiting in itself, the Arc de Triomphe is an impressive structure built to honor those who died in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. Carved out of limestone, the arch is inscribed with the names of French generals and their battle victories. After marvelling at the huge stone structure, be sure to take time strolling down Champs Elysees avenue for a true slice of Parisian life.
Fonte de Gaume
This popular prehistoric attraction is an ancient cave that is covered with a number of prehistoric paintings. Pay a visit and try to decipher the meanings behind the drawings and to soak up the ancient atmosphere for yourself.
