Standing Up For All Of Your Rights

We have made progress. As women, looking back over the last century, we have definitely stamped down our mark, although there is still so much to be done. Thankfully, there are stepping stones in place for us to get to where we need to be - we just need to get there, first. Taking into account everything around us and the rights that we still need to exercise, there is a lot that we need to work on to get ourselves both physically and mentally to a destination that we are happy with.

The Right To Be Heard

This is different than being listened to - being heard is about being recognised. There have been quite a few marches all over the world over the past couple of months which have demonstrated a woman’s right to be heard, but there are still so many ways that can be explored. Calling people out when you know that they’re being unfair and not stopping until both you and the victim get an apology for the behaviour displayed is a great way to promote equality and get the recognition that we all deserve.

The Right To Our Own Space

There was a time (and there still is in certain parts of the world) where women were seen solely as the property of men. We were used as trade, used to barter, sold for marriage and kept as items rather than our own person. We’ve come a long way since then, and we are all entitled to our own space - both in body and in mind. This especially goes for in the workplace; nobody should be invading your personal space to touch you in any way, and there are consequences to their actions if they do - you can read more about it here. Certain rules do not apply for certain people anymore, and everybody should be covered no matter where they are. It’s still a battle to be fought, but it’s one that is being recognised time and time over.

The Right To Be Listened To

Giving ourselves the right to be listened to is not something that anybody gets naturally; there is an element of respect that has to be earned first. Nobody has the time to listen to somebody who they can’t respect; turn it around and flip it to your own life and assess it from that viewpoint.

The Right To Succeed

Everybody in the world has the right to do their own thing and succeed at it. There are all sorts of dreams that can be accomplished, and your gender should not stop you from doing whatever you want to do in this life. Taking the time to figure out how to get to where you want to be is something that everyone who succeeds does regardless of what sex they are, so take some time out to make a plan. Then, all you have to do is simply follow the lead; take your time and show them how it’s done. You’ve got this.
