Meter Monday: "What If?"
by Marilyn Moy
hey future me,
What if
I was taller?
What if
we never felt lonely
never outcasted
excluded from others
What if
we all lived in communion with each other
without any bitter resentment or anger?
I guess we would become robots
What if
the abstract word and thought of "evil"
never once lived
in our minds
Would the world
be a better place?
Younger me:
All I know is this
even if we cry out countless times
even if our tears overflow our cup
broken hearts
make for
an evermore beautiful
story
