Meter Monday: Seemingly Endless Façade
by Marilyn Moy
enter in to a room
a horde of people
cliques talking amongst themselves
fear slips in through the closed door
like a familiar unwanted stranger
augmenting
walls building in my heart
let no one in
show no fear
I have it all together
put on a fake smile
my façade cracks as I rush into the bathroom
a silent spot
so many blemishes return
write on my planner, “go to Bible study”
day of, cancelled
give excuse to my parents
I’m too busy, schoolwork
how can this end
someone knocks on my door
I look through the peephole
