Friday, August 5: Opening Ceremony wows Rio!
The 2016 Olympic games are now officially underway! Though the lead-up to the games has been highly controversial (we can't ignore the mobs and riots, poop-filled waters, and seriously slashed budgets), the Games is still an event that brings the world together - and that's what we like!
The show at the Marcana Stadium in Rio began with the Brazilian national anthem. There were then projects on the stadium floor representing the ocean and the first microbes that inhabited the Earth.
Acrobats took the stage in flawless displays of passion, dance, and athleticism. It was truly a spectacular sight to see.
Gisele Bundchen strutted the stage 30 minutes into the show. Soon after, the Parade of Nations started and the lineup was peppered with famous athletes and newcomers alike.
A resounding "yes" erupted from the audience when the Canadian team rolled out in their cool gear. Wait - that was just me.
Check back tomorrow for our news updates and winners' list, and let the games begin!
