Where Do You Want Your Relationship To Go?

Where Do You Want Your Relationship To Go?

Most of us fall in and out of relationships fairly easily when we’re young. We find other priorities in life, or we just don’t like being with that person as much anymore. It’s never easy or comfortable breaking up with someone we’ve been seeing for a while, but sometimes it’s just the right thing to do. So what do we do when we realise we don’t want to break up from a relationship?

When you are have been quite happy in a relationship for a while, you may find that it becomes more and more important to know where you’re both heading. Everybody changes, and sometimes our entire lives change quite radically. Career moves, children, and even lifestyle changes can have a big impact on even the most secure relationships.

But realising that the person you’re with is the one you want to stay with can also be a bit of a shock. It usually happens at one of those moments where something in your lives needs to change. You know that the change may cause upheaval in the relationship. So how hard do you need to fight for it?

There are times in our lives when we need a little more independence and space too. A relationship can prevent us making the moves we want. It is at these points that the relationship can begin to break down. This is when you need to start to decide what you want. You need to speak to your partner at length, and you need to listen when he talks too.

Finding out what you both really think about the relationship can be tough to hear. You might both agree to talk with a psychologist to help you both get to the true root of the problems. According to LB Psychologists, it is often difficult to come to the conclusions you need without some insight and guidance from a professional. If you both know you want to be together, then this could be the best way to make it work.

There are times when we just don’t know what we want. Or perhaps we’re not sure the best path to take to get what we want. The future is unknown and there is that fear of commitment that all of us suffer from time to time. We just don’t want to make the wrong choices. The emotional and financial cost of a breakup can be too much to bear. Is it better to keep things going the way they are right now, or is it time to see how your visions for the future match up?

You don’t need to have all the answers right now. Just recognising that it’s time to find some answers is a good step. You can talk about what life might be like if you commit with your partner. And you can also decide if life without him is just as attractive. The path you want to take in life may not be one he is willing to travel for you. Equally, you might not want to follow him on his journey through life either. Until you talk it out, you might never know.
