The Culture of "March for Life"

Pro life citizens and all those who are curious to learn about the pro-life perspective on abortion are invited to participate in the annual March for Life.

What is it?

March for Life is an annual event in the United States and Canada for pro-life citizens to come together and march for the thousands of children who were terminated in their mother’s womb. It consists of speeches from political leaders and activists, marches along parliament buildings, and testimonies from women who regret their abortions.

How It Started

The first March for Life took place on January 22, 1974 in Washington, DC., where thousands of pro-life Americans participated in the march to stand up for the unborn. An inspiring rally was held as Members of Congress announced pro-life legislation and expressed their support for the pro-life cause. Soon after the first march in 1974, the event - rather than being originally a one-time event - was instead made an annual rally. Since then, the March continues to grow and develop each year as more citizens became aware of the injustice towards the unborn and decided to stand up and do something about it.

This Year’s March

This year, the March in the United States took place on January 27 and will take place on May 11 in Canada. March for Life consists of five major events: candlelight vigil, the march, rose dinner, youth banquet, and the youth conference. Candlelight vigil is for the victims of abortion. This is a moving event with a very spiritual atmosphere that involves music, speeches from a variety of youth organizers, testimonials, and several moving prayers. The march is the main event where participants march around the streets of Ottawa in Canada or the Washington Monument grounds to raise their voice for the unborn. The rose dinner follows after the march where participants enjoy their meal, mingle with others, and listen to guest speakers. The youth banquet and conference is dedicated to youth who are involved in the pro life awareness and/or interested to learn more about the political and social issues surrounding abortion. It includes dinner, educational speeches from speakers, and workshops to educate youth.
