4 Natural (Magical!) Ways to Battle Acne

Acne sucks! But unfortunately, it’s something that almost every teenager experiences-unless you’re one of the lucky few who has effortlessly clear skin, in which case teach.me.your.ways. Every person’s acne is caused by different factors which can include genes, hormones, diet, dehydration, lack of personal hygiene etc. But no matter what the cause is, we can all agree that those pimples needs to go. However, in attempt to clear ance many people buy super expensive products that don’t make too much of a difference, or even worse-cause more breakouts. So read on because here are some cost efficient ways to clear your skin-naturally.

 

1) Baking Soda, Honey and Coconut Oil

What you need:

  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda

  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey

  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil

Directions: Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl until it creates a thin paste. Then apply all over your face with the exception of your eyes and mouth. With slow, circular movements, rub the paste over your face for about two minutes and leave the paste on for 10-15 minutes. After this use warm water to rinse off the hardened paste and pat dry.

Benefits: Baking soda reduces the size of your acne and helps lighten scars. Honey is fights against bacteria, helps bring moisture back into the skin and help fade acne scars. Coconut oil fights bacteria and fungus and also helps soften the skin.  

 

2) Turmeric, Greek Yogurt, Honey

What you need:

  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric

  • 3 teaspoons greek yogurt

  • 1 teaspoon raw honey

Directions: Combine these three to create a paste and apply over your face, excluding your eyes and mouth. This mask is very thin and will likely spill so make sure you’re in a position where there won’t be too much of the mask falling away. After 10-15 minutes use warm water and washcloth to cleanse your face.

Benefits: Turmeric has anti inflammatory qualities that help reduce the appearance of pimples and calms the skin. Greek yogurt dissolves dead skin and tightens pores. Honey plays the same role as it did in the first DIY!

BEWARE: Turmeric can stain your fingers, so make sure to use a clean makeup brush or cotton balls. If there happens to be a yellow tint on your face after the mask then you can use a diluted apple cider vinegar toner mixed with water or a gentle toner.  

 

3) Cucumber Face Mask

What you need:

  • ½ cucumber

  • Tablespoon of sugar

Directions: Mash up ½ cucumber and strain all the water away. Then add a tablespoon of sugar and mix well so all the sugar is well combined. Apply to your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Wash with cold water.

Benefit: This is a cooling mask that will smooth your skin and soothe redness, inflammation and irritation. Cucumber will also clean skin for the inside to eliminate bacteria, excess oil and dirt and unclog skin pores.

 

4) Tea Tree Oil

Directions:

  • Apply tea tree essential oil on your acne using a cotton ball.

  • If you have dry skin you can dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with coconut/olive

  • For some extra power you can also mix with 1 tablespoon of aloe vera

Benefits: Tea tree oil has antibacterial properties that help get rid of bacteria that causes acne and also reduces the appearance of acne scars.
