Can I Be a Feminist Who Wears Pink?

As I write you this article, I am curled up in a soft pink shirt, with lotion socks on, and a candle lit behind me. I am the epitome of a girly girl, and I am a feminist. So often in today’s society feminism is an insult hurled at woman who dislike or even hate men. Lesbians are called feminists without even discussing their views on the subject. A beauty queen is told she is anti-feminist because she “stands for male oppression of women”. Frankly, it’s all total lies.

A feminist can be anyone who believes in the equality of the sexes but it is so much more than that. A feminist is someone who will stand up for what she believes in wither her opinion is popular or not. It is someone who will partake in the hobbies she feels betters herself without worrying about the opinions of others. A feminist knows as long as she is doing what makes her happy without regard for the thoughts of others that she is bettering the cause of equality.

Should women and men have equal pay? Absolutely. Should men and women be able to work in an environment where neither is belittled and talked down upon based on their sex? Without a doubt. Should raises and promotions be based upon work ethic and leadership skills over gender? Is that even a question?

Should a feminist be determined by my sexual orientation, my favorite color, my hobbies, and the fact that I happily will strut on stage in a swimsuit because it empowers me? No. Not in a million years.

I am a feminist. I will state that proudly to anyone who will listen. I am also a girl who really enjoys the color pink.
